When you sit down to create a diorama, the sky is the limit and if you can dream it up, you can create it.  Look no farther than fantasy figurines for characters to fill your space and give you hours of fulfilling imaginative endeavors.

To really impress with your diorama, you need to find the just right fantasy collectibles to illustrate your ideas. The more intricate quality miniatures you use, the higher quality your project will be. Popular brands like Schleich and Safari LTD statues have a variety of fairytale characters including knights, elves, fairies, and dragon statues.
The selection of collectibles can be overwhelming so it's best to first come up with an idea of what you would like to see in your diorama. Will it be an action scene such as a knight fiercely fighting and locked in combat with a dragon to save a damsel in distress? Could it be elves battling a mystical beast; or a perhaps an ethereal landscape where elves perfect their speechcraft while wandering through the woods, living peacefully with otherkin?

These are just some ideas that I came up with off the top of my head.

Another factor to take into consideration is the size of your diorama, which will be based on what sort of container you choose to use. Will everything fit neatly in a shoe box, two shoe boxes, or even a custom made 12 x 12 cube? Think about the orientation of the scene as well--horizontal or parallel. For example, if you want your diorama to feature dragons soaring through the air, a vertical landscape might be best. Whereas, if you wish to depict a ground fight with a sorcerer wielding his staff against a draconian terror, a horizontal setting may work better.

Colored background paper can be used to craft exquisite framing features like earth and sky. Use the paper and other materials to build surrounding items like trees, castles, and bushes to really tell the story. Color contrast is an often unnoticed and very important part of your diorama: remember using the same color too often can hamper the appropriate contrast necessary to make your main story line pop off the set, and is just boring with a capital B!

The first step you need to do is produce the background sky and ground before you even begin to situate your miniatures. Simply assemble your different elements as thought out in your storyboard, insert a couple of dragon miniatures, and add any final touches!

See, there's nothing to building an amazing fantasy diorama that will be a source of pleasure and inspiration for years to come. If you ever want to swap out your pieces into a new set, be sure to use non permanent adhesive so they can easily be transferred.
